While skeptics talk about the drawbacks of these alternatives in urban mobility, different demographic profiles of the population are using battery propulsion as their way of moving on our streets. Skateboards, electric cars and hybrid bicycles are an active reaction to the progressive rise in the cost of combustion engines, not to mention the regulatory changes that are literally removing meters of asphalt from diesel and gasoline.
Rivers of digital ink talk about what is going to happen to the automobile industry and the landscape of our streets and cities, but the question that many do not ask and that was asked Manuel Garcia, academic director of the engineering/architecture area of EIP, is: will my students have the need in their future work to know and understand how to integrate these vehicles into the engineering and architecture of buildings and homes?
The answer is obvious. The electrical network is already prepared to support the charging of up to 5 million vehicles of this category, which translates in practice into millions of residential and business solutions that will have to have accessible, easy-to-use and integration charging points. It would be ridiculous to ignore this reality.
