Training as a second chance
The Spanish autonomous organism for prison labour and training (OATPEE) under the Ministry of Home Affairs is in charge of the coordination and creation of training actions which enable the improvement of the employability and labour integration of inmates. One of these actions is the Training programme of food handlers for persons deprived of liberty.
We do not like boasting, but around 5000 people have had access to a second chance in their social integration thanks to this programme which we bade and developed.
In Spain, there is an inmate population of 65,017 people. Most of them do not have qualified training which allows them to have good opportunities in the labour market. One of the main actions social integration carried out by the Ministry of Home Affairs has been the Operative Programme of “fighting against discrimination”
