Hybrid work: the challenge to the established order

Hybrid work: the challenge to the established order

There is no doubt that the pandemic has transformed everything, even what was foreseeable, although at breakneck speed. Beyond achieving “herd immunity” with vaccines and recovering the economy through aid and stimulus, we must face an inexorable reality: In many ways, our lives will never be the same. And work is one of those aspects.

The initial forced migration of work from the office to home not only became natural, but was later preferred by a 73% of working people, according to recent Microsoft research[Yo].

[Yo] First Labor Trends Index, Work Trends Index, for a population of 30,000 people in 31 countries (including Spain).

Now, the trend is towards flexible or hybrid work: that onethat combines days - or part of them - in the traditional office with moments of teleworking from home, second homes or vacation resorts. More than transformative, it is a disruptive change, a challenge to the work order established prior to the pandemic.

Address hybrid work It will require rethinking the entire business culture: from the attraction and retention of talent, to intra-business social relations and the design of the work space, through the management organization chart, work processes and social benefits; without forgetting the changes that - in parallel - the educational system itself should consider.

This new era will require that we consider flexible work as the first option for the development of -almost- any activity.; that we promote social relations between working people; that we do not make up strenuous work days as “productivity”; and that we take the employee experience as seriously as we take the customer experience
